A Moment With Missions…
In two weeks, (Sunday, August 25th), Jonathan & Beth Todd will be visiting us here in Norton from Itaituba, Brazil, where they have served for almost eight (8) years. As part of their calling in Brazil, Jonathan and Beth teach several courses at the Church of God Seminary, as well as serve on various ministry councils with the Seminary. They not only serve the students there, but also help with many local needs in their community. Additionally, part of their work is to help connect local congregations, not only with one another, but with Brazilian National Ministries and with churches and groups within the United States. Brazil has a thriving Church of God presence in their country with the church celebrating 100 years of ministry!
In his letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul writes to the congregation with directions for giving to a particular needed cause. He states in I Corinthians 16:1-2 (ESV), “Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.” Several months ago, the church put out a box for missions, (it is located at the doors just inside of the sanctuary), so that we could give regularly to missions and not take up a special offering when our missionaries come. Additionally, it gives us an opportunity to think about missions, about giving, and an opportunity to pray regularly for those serving. Sharing the Gospel and serving alongside others should be more than just a “once a year Sunday activity” whenever a missionary visits our congregation – rather it can become a faithful act of service in helping to fulfill the Great Commission. Thank you in advance for your generosity and faithfulness!
The Todd’s will be sharing in our Morning Worship Service, and we will be having a Potluck Dinner following the service. It will be a great opportunity to not only get to know the Todd’s better, but it will also be a wonderful time of fellowship for our congregation! I look forward to seeing you there!
