A Note from the Pastor…
Our church Mission Committee met a few weeks ago, and I am excited to share some wonderful new! Our giving to Christians Broadcasting Hope (CBH) continues to grow, as we support their mission to evangelize the world for Christ thru radio and social media. Our missionaries in Brazil, (the Todds), were able to return back to Itaituba, Brazil, after coming home to visit Beth Todd’s mother, who is in very poor health. I am thankful for a safe journey, and I ask you to pray with me for her mother and family. We also discussed our continuing desire to help youth and young adults discover God’s calling for their lives thru missions.
I am also thrilled to announce that the Mission Committee is planning a trip back to Brazil in February of 2027 – led by Kent Lockhart – who visited the Todd’s in Brazil last September with our church. This visit we be unlike any we have taken before! In February, all the local Church of God Congregations share an evangelistic outreach through worship called “Desperta” (which mean “Awaken” or “Wake Up”). In its 11th year, it continues to grow in both Itaituba, and in congregations outside of the Amazonian region, (last year, more than 5,000 people attended the largest events).
During this past event, 218 people accepted Christ and over 300 people attended from outside of the region. (When we visited in September, we were honored to attend the baptism of many of these new converts). The events are always free, yet the organizers ask that you bring a canned or boxed food item if you are able. This allowed them to collect food baskets that supported 130-150 families in their times of need.
If you would like to attend – our group will be helping Beth bake goods to serve the staff, set up events with other volunteers, and help to reset things for the next day’s events. Yet the reality is much more – it is an opportunity to be present in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ living in Brazil, and to serve in the Kingdom of God to see the Gospel go forward. I ask that you prayerfully consider this opportunity, (to attend or even to give) and contact Kent or me for more information!
