I want to begin by welcoming John Walters this morning, and I look forward to what God has placed on his heart to share with us about the ongoing work of Christians Broadcasting Hope (CBH). We will not be taking a special offering for CBH during the service – however, everything placed in the “Mission Offering Box” will go to the ministry at Christians Broadcasting Hope. Additionally, there be an offering plate downstairs for anyone who would like to make a donation to this wonderful ministry. Please warmly welcome John this morning as he shares with our congregation!
Many churches today share in a week-long celebration, with nightly services commemorating the final week of Christ’s life before his Crucifixion, Death, and Resurrection. It is a week-long examination of many important biblical passages. However, many Church of God congregations only celebrate Palm Sunday (which is today), Holy (or Maundy) Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. Our own congregation will be having a foot-washing and sharing in Communion this Thursday evening here at the church starting at 7p.m. Additionally, we are also invited to the Christian Church for a “Good Friday Service” that has been moved to 6:00 pm in the evening, (they will be taking up an offering benefiting the Norton County Ministerial Alliance). As we move toward Easter, our congregation will be meeting here at the church for a 7 a.m. Sunrise Service Easter morning, which will include a short scripture reading, prayer, and a song. We will then move downstairs to the basement and share in a fellowship breakfast. Finally, I want to invite everyone to come to our Easter morning services this coming Sunday at both 9:00 & 10:30 a.m. as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior and share in Communion together as a congregation.
I would also like to invite you to prepare your hearts next week as we share in Communion. The Gospel’s of Matthew, Mark, and Luke directly share the account of the Last Supper, while John’s Gospel focuses primarily on “foot-washing,” (Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 14:17-25; Luke 22:7-22; & John 13:21-30). We find the early disciples sharing in Communion in the book of Acts, and Paul shares with the church at Corinth an in-depth account of sharing the Lord’s Supper, (I Corinthians 11:17-34). I look forward to sharing with you next week!
Pastor Chris
