A Note from the Pastor…
As we continue our series, “Faith of Our Fathers,” this week we look at sin. Romans 3:23 reminds us “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (ESV). We see the results of sin all around us. We protect our identity, so it is not stolen. We watch television and the internet with caution, because of a lack of truth. Adultery is still ruining marriages. Pornography is poisoning minds. Addictions, abuse, envy, pride, hatred, with a whole host of ungodliness, seems to lurk behind too many corners and in too many hearts. Recognized or not – the results of sin are all around us!
The book of Ecclesiastes reminds us, “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun,” (Ecclesiastes 1:9 ESV). Sin is not new! Yet the Bible also reminds us that if we don’t continually teach our children about the ways of God, they will not know His Truth, (the only truth that matters). In the book of Judges, we find the account of Joshua’s death as the children of Israel claim their inheritances in the Promised Land. “And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work that the LORD had done for Israel.” The Bible goes on to tell that Joshua lived to 110 and was buried – but here is what I want you to see as the account continues. “And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD or the work that he had done for Israel,” (Judges 2:7-10 ESV). If we do not teach our children about God – How will they know?
If we fail to teach the “whole council of God” then we have failed to properly teach about the true nature of the Lord. He is merciful, and He is Loving. The Lord is also Just and Holy! (Come back tonight for a message about Holiness). As we continue our series this morning, remember these three things – Sin is bad! Don’t do it! And the only cure for sin is repentance and faith in Jesus Christ! That is faith worth following – and faith worth passing on to our children! II Timothy 2:2 states, (on the front of your bulletin for this month), “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” (ESV). Amen and Amen!
