A Note from the Pastor…
This morning, we come to the end of our series, “Faith of Our Fathers.” In the past month, we have endeavored to examine some of the essential doctrines of Christianity. Doctrines that all Christians agree are necessary to worship the Lord “in spirit and in truth.” Doctrines that unite us – Teachings that honor the Lord. First, we looked at the Deity of Christ. Jesus Christ was more than just a historical figure with good moral lessons. Christ is God the Son! Secondly, we looked at the nature of sin. Romans 3:23 reminds us that, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (ESV). We looked at not only the universality of sin, but the penalty Christ paid and the need to repent. Last week, we examined the essential doctrine of the resurrection. Simply, Jesus Christ is alive!
On Sunday evenings, I have held a “Church of God 101 Class” of sorts. We looked at various doctrines, songs, and beliefs, traditionally held by our church. We covered the Kingdom of God, we examined holiness, we talked about unity, and we even shared in communion together last Sunday evening. It has by no means been exhaustive in nature, but I hope it has been helpful in having a better understanding of our traditional beliefs and views concerning the scriptures.
This morning’s message is not the one I expected to share as I began preparing for this series several weeks ago. I had many things on my mind that I wanted to share – but a message about God deserving, and expecting, all the glory has been on my heart! Surely, this message will not include “everything.” Surely, I will not be able to do this subject justice. Surely, each one of us will think of things in our own experience, (and in scripture), that we wish the pastor would cover. However, my simple desire is to help us better understand our calling in giving our Lord the glory in everything as we examine “essential” doctrines! May God truly bless us in all we do for Him!
In Christ,
Pastor Chris
