A Note From the Pastor…
As we begin a new series this week, I am looking forward to sharing some of the essential truths of God’s Word that were so eloquently penned by Paul to the Galatian congregations. This week, I will be highlighting the testimony that Paul left behind for us, but also highlighting his attestation of God’s work in in his life while he was alive. Galatians 1:22-24 states, And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” And they glorified God because of me, (ESV). Paul could not change his past, but he could accept the forgiveness of Christ.
Too many of us today try to “run, hide, or cover” our past before we came to Christ. There are times we can “go back” and fix past wrongs, mend strained relationships, or restore broken confidences. There are also times and situations where we can’t. The Apostle Paul simply accepted the forgiveness of Christ and was satisfied in God being glorified for the work of the Lord accomplished in his life. We must not focus on what others think of us – but we must be thankful for what Christ knows about us and the forgiveness He provides!
Yet, it is also important to “guard our testimony” and to not do anything to hurt our opportunity to share the Gospel with others. Paul didn’t worry about his past – but concerned himself with his present work, and his future hope, so that the Lord would be honored at every turn. This past week, I showed a few pictures of our trip to Ireland. One was Alana and I in the rain and wind, and one was a picture of mostly fog. In the Second Service (10:30), I shared with the congregation that we did get to see some better views to the “left” of where our picture was taken. However, I didn’t share that part with the Early Service (9:00), and I didn’t want to leave the wrong impression. It is important to honor God in both word and deed!
Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. (Psalm 145:2-3)
