A Note from the Pastor…
This week we continue our series about Silas, (More Than A Spectator). In this series, we are following the missionary journey of Paul, Silas, and Timothy, as they follow the direction of the Spirit. It turned out not to be an easy journey. The group had much success – but the group also suffered difficulties and hinderances. In the coming weeks, we are going to see Paul and Silas imprisoned and their friends attacked. Sometimes, Paul was arrested or attacked. At other times, Paul was whisked away by the brethren to the next place to continue sharing the Gospel.
As I think about the weather over the past week, it brings us to a very important question. Should we cancel church or not? On one hand, the Word of God talks about the importance of Christians gathering as a congregation. The writer of Hebrews states in part, “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some,” (Hebrews 10:25a). Coming to the House of God is important! We need to hear the Word of God preached and we need the fellowship and encouragement of one another. We truly know that God can protect each and every one of us. On the other hand, sometimes we find that Paul “retreated” (Acts 17:10) to the next place, (no doubt after the work was finished), and continued on His way serving God. He was always about the Lord’s business, but he also used wisdom. Our work is not done here in Norton, Kansas, but we strive to use both common sense and wisdom in protecting this wonderful congregation. A pastor friend once said something to the effect that, “God can protect us, but he also gave us a brain to use!”
May God continue to bless us in all that we do for the Lord, and may we continue to love, honor, and protect one another as we follow Christ!
