We Are Not the Same…
The story of all the Abrahamic religions begins with Abram and Sarai leaving Ur at the calling of God. God established a revolutionary covenant to begin the process of salvation from the Fall of Man. Abram and Sarai, who later became Abraham and Sarah, are claimed by three of the world’s most prolific “faiths” (Judaism, Christianity, & Islam), as the origin story in the narratives and traditions associated with God’s promises to him, (Moody, 2023).
At first glance, the three main Abrahamic religions seem to have much in common. All three hold monotheistic doctrines about God, (that there is only one God). All recognize Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and even believe that Jesus existed, (Jews believe Jesus was a mere teacher, Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God, and Muslims teach that Jesus was a mighty prophet of God, but that he was not crucified, but taken up to Heaven). All three have so called “sacred scriptures” and all three call followers to live lives in service.
Yet, a shared belief, is not the same as a shared truth. According to Moody, “Christianity stands out as a unique Abrahamic religion due to its distinct theological beliefs, central figure, and historical development.” He goes on to write, “Christianity’s central tenet is the belief in the incarnation of God in the person of Jesus Christ. Christians hold that Jesus is both fully human and fully divine. The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are pivotal events in Christianity.” We believe, without doubt, that Jesus Christ is God the Son!
Simply, without the Jesus of the Old and New Testament, there is not salvation! Acts chapter 4 recounts, “This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Jesus Christ – Prophet and Priest and King!
